In addition to the sixteen miles of sandy beaches to explore in Placencia, there are a variety of activities available to cater to any vacation genre. For those in tune with nature and wildlife exploration there are forest reserve visits, nature trails for bird watching and even campsites for the our more adventurous visitors. And for families who seek excitement, there are opportunities for Zip-lining, cave tubing, river rappelling and beautiful waterfall visits.
Placencia is also ideal for fly-fishing, which draws in a large number of tourists during the summer. There are also many festivities to enjoy on your peninsular getaway. During the spring and Easter vacations, the sea-shore is animated by lights, music and games that occur during the week long arrangement of beach parties and live performances by both local and international artists. During the summer, Placencia hosts the ever-popular Lobster Fest, an annual three day event normally occurring in June that is filled with similar celebratory activities and of course, all the lobster dishes one could imagine.
Topography & Climate
Placencia is a fairly low-lying peninsula with peaks ranging about forty miles away in the Maya Mountains at heights of up to 3,688 ft. In totality, Placencia Peninsula is eighteen miles from north to south and consists of Riversdale Village, Maya Beach Village, Seine Bight and of course, Placencia Village.
The climate of Placencia and southern Belize displays more tropical than sub-tropical tendencies in comparison to central and northern Belize. There are wet and dry seasons, the former beginning between late May and early June. The end of the wet season in November marks a cooler period with lower temperatures and less rainfall. On average, temperatures remain between the ranges of 72 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall is most experienced in the month of October with anaverage total accumulation of 6.3 inches. The least rainfall can be expected during the month of April wherein there is an average total accumulation of only 1.3 inches.
